Sunset Rock Engagement Photos

This trail is located in Highlands, North Carolina & is PERFECT for engagement photos! Anthony & Alexis live in North Carolina and had seen me post about Sunset Rock so when they got engaged, they immediately knew they wanted to do photos here.

Anthony wore his own “engagement” ring and I thought that was so unique. He didn’t understand why Alexis got to wear one but he didn’t. I think it is so sweet that he wants the whole world to know that he is taken so I made sure to capture his ring also!

Best Time of Year for your Sunset Rock Engagement Photos

In my opinion, Sunset Rock is beautiful during the whole year but there are a few things you probably want to consider when deciding when is best for you. The first thing to consider is what type of scenery you want. If you would prefer to have lush green trees and wildflowers then you will want to shoot for spring time. That is when Anthony & Alexis had their engagement photos done.

During summer, it will be quite hot and probably pretty busy so you’ll want to consider that. Then there is fall, when you will have bright oranges that make for a great backdrop for any photoshoot. Winter is beautiful but can get very cold so you’ll want to make sure you are bundled up. The trees will be bare and there might be ice on the walk up so you’ll have to be prepared.

What to wear for your Sunset Rock Engagement Photos

As with any session, you’ll want to take into consideration the time of year and the weather. It’s always important to not clash with the landscape. Neutrals will always be your best choice. And you’ll want to dress for the weather, you don’t want to end up freezing or uncomfortable.

Anthony & Alexis brought two outfits, which I offer all of my couples the option to do. I recommend bringing one casual outfit and one dressy outfit so that you have lots of variety in your photos. It’s important to have comfortable shoes for the walk up and an easy to carry bag for your change of clothes.

Things to know

🌧️ Check the weather! The walk up can get pretty icy during cold weather.

✨ It can get busy on pretty weekends & holidays!

🚙 There is minimal parking but I’ve never had any trouble getting a parking spot!
